Ted Vick School is committed to a school-wide AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program.
AVID is the largest, most comprehensive college readiness program in California.
By providing students with skills opportunities to excel in rigorous higher-level courses, AVID students increase their chances of not only being accepted to the schools of their choices, it also provides them with the tools they need to complete their college degrees.
The Mustang athletics program offers participation for students in grades 5 through 8.
As a member of the High Desert Athletics League, our athletes will participate on various teams in games against other schools.
While competiveness is important, our Mustangs are urged to learn sportsmanship and appreciation for the game.
Athletic teams offered vary by grade, but include soccer, basketball and cross country.
If you would like more information, please contact Mr. Mark Forbes at extension 1707.
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computerized program that helps teachers manage and students’ independent reading practice.
Students select and read books according to their ability levels, as established by their STAR Reading Assessment.
Once they have completed their chosen books, students take tests to assess their comprehension of what they read.
As they exercise their reading skills, they grow in their reading levels.
Student successes in AR are celebrated throughout the year with students earning prizes at the AR Store and with an end of the year AR Celebration.
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is used at Ted Vick to support the social, academic and emotional needs of our students.
Through the implementation of PBIS, students are taught acceptable behaviors throughout the campus. Whether in the classroom, on the playground or at the exit gates, Ted Vick students are expected to engage in positive behaviors which support healthy and appropriate educational and social behaviors and relationships.
Should students need support or interventions in maintaining such behaviors and relationships, the staff at Ted Vick is committed to providing that immediate feedback to students.
Parent involvement is an important component to the success of every school and its students. To that end, Ted Vick offers several opportunities for parents to get involved with their students’ school. Opportunities to get involved include:
- Coffee with the Principal (last Thursday of every month)
- Family Literacy Nights
- Room Parents
- Fall Festival
- School Site Council
- Campus Volunteers
Response to Intervention
Ted Vick School is committed to providing each student with the support they need to be successful in the areas of academics, citizenship and attendance. To that end, we maintain a Response to Intervention (RTI) system to meet students at their current levels in the above mentioned areas.
Programs such as Safe School Ambassadors, Student Attendance Review Team, English Language Development, Saturday School and math and reading interventions provide students with tiered-levels of support in order to help them achieve success as well-rounded students.
Parents who feel their students are in need of extra support are encouraged to collaborate with teachers and administrators through a Student Study Team (SST) to determine appropriate RTI supports.
